MAWA 2016 State Conference

The 2016 State Conference is back in 2016 and will be held in the Perth Cultural Centre from 12 – 14 October 2016.

The overarching theme of the conference is engaging communities and will be exploring creative approaches to planning, working with communities and activating your museum, collection or heritage attraction in innovative ways. There will be speakers and content to appeal to all our members; from the smallest independent collection to the largest state organisations.

Speakers

Leading international Key Note Speakers from the UK and US will be sharing their experiences with us. We’re excited to announce keynote speaker, Dustin Growick, from Museum Hack NYC, an organisation that is successfully challenging how people experience museums, and special guest speakers Dr Elizabeth Merritt, from the Centre for the Future of Museums, and Tony Butler, from Derby Museums Trust.

These will be enhanced by a great range of local speakers covering topics such as digital approaches to engagement, reaching your community, reactivating your existing spaces, inventiveness on a budget, creative partnerships and inspiring children in your museum.

Local Government Day – Wednesday 12 October

This year, the main conference will be preceded by a Local Government Day, focusing on the challenges and successes of those museums operating within a local government framework, and museums working in partnership with local government. The day will include sessions on funding, volunteering, tips from successful community engagement programs as well as two major site visits.
